Practice Tips
To make good progress on your instrument,
you need to practice regularly.
It’s best to do 15-20 minutes a day for 5-6 days a week in your first year, and 20-30 minutes a day for 6 days a week in your second year. Your practice card will help you record your times. He’res some ways you can help yourself practice:
1. Set a regular time.
Whether it’s before dinner, after school, during homework, or even before you go to school in the morning; set a time of day and always do your practicing then. After a few weeks you’ll be in the habit and it’ll be easy!
2. Find a place that’s just yours.
If you clean out a corner of your room, a place in the basement, even a bit of the attic; you can have a space that’s just for your music. It needs to be well lit so you can see, and free from distractions like TV, gameboy, ipods, or little brothers. Then you can enjoy music making in peace and not so quiet. ;-)
3. Enjoy yourself!
Your instrument is a grand new adventure, so explore it and have fun! Play new songs, find new sounds, figure things out by ear... have a blast; because making music is supposed to be fun!

ARTWORK ON THE STUDENT BLOG
Our music computer lab has many fun and informative music games for our students to use before or after their lesson. However, occasionally, some of them move through all of the games and/or just want a bit of a break from them. So instead, we've found, that a number of our students are drawing amazing works of art in the paint program. There were so many great ones, that we thought it would be fun to share them with you. So we've posted them on our student blog.
CLICK HERE to see them for yourself. You might even see your OWN work of art up there.
